Make a list of the top ten reasons Catholic Schools are awesome. You can name reasons you like ECC or you can speak of the philosophical beauty of a catholic education. Do you know how catholic schools started? How about catholic schools in Elk County? Do a little research on this freezing cold day! Also, check your email. I am going to send you a link so you can watch "Frozen" on your iPad.
I am not very religious and I can still muster up several very good reasons to get an education from a catholic or private school. First and foremost is the smaller class size which instills a family mentality. Second I would say is the fact that the teachers at private schools seems to be much more helpful than public schools. That is not a fact but I believe that this is somewhat true. Third is that even if you aren't catholic it is good to learn about several different religions. They have played a very important part in history so it helps to understand world history more than many people would think. Fourth, private education offers special classes such as our excellent art courses and drafting. The fifth reason is that in my opinion there are several employers that look higher on those who grew up with a public education. Sixth is the option to express your spirituality. The seventh reason and one of the most important is the fact that there are several friendships built along the journey because everybody knows everybody. The eighth reason is that we are always capable of receiving help from either students or staff. Ninth is that there is always some kind of extracurricular activity going on that you are allowed to participate in. The last reason is catholic schools week
ReplyDeleteI've made so many genuine friends in different grades and activities.
ReplyDeleteI truly believe that the teachers at all of the Catholic schools, no matter how "evil" or "sinister", care about us. They all just want us to reach our potential and succeed, and are willing to work with each of us to make that happen.
I feel like there's less pressure to be accepted, and more glory to those who are not afraid to stand out.
There are so many opportunities for the students at Catholic schools to find themselves in Christ. We have annual retreats, weekly mass, and tons of additional trips offered to the students.
I think it's evident that everyone at ECC carries a lot of pride. Even when other schools try to bash our school, at the end of the day, we are all proud to be Crusaders.
Everyone in a Catholic school pretty much knows everyone else by name, so there are no strangers and it's easier for everyone to feel comfortable. Even the students and janitors are on a first name basis.
We at free to express our beliefs, which may sound cliché, but it truly is an incredible freedom when compared to other schools.
It's hard to be judged by your appearance, because for the most part we all look quite similar in what we wear. But, we can still express ourselves through little things such as the tie we wear each day or the way we do our hair.
There's a lot of opportunities for us to flourish in the things that we love: we have a great sports program, we have been blessed with the talents and teachings of instructors like Mr. Winklebauer and Mr. Knight etc. There are also many clubs available for everyone.
I think to many people, our school can be considered a second home, which is pretty cool.
Dominoes Pizza (Haha!)
ReplyDeleteMy dads: Mr. Knight, Mr. Hanes, Mr. Schneider and WeeJ
I can talk about my man, Jesus, at any old time
Smaller classes
More intimacy with classmates and teachers (not romantically of course. Well except for last year. With one boy. Haha)
Sports teams/band are like close-knit families
Pretty much all of the teachers are super awesome, each of them have their funny quirks
School Mass! You gotta love singing obnoxiously together. :) All and All
I had the opportunity to go on the most amazing trip of my life (to the Dominican Republic) thanks to my Catholic school
Having the Eucharist, crucifixes, and religious statues around the school just give it a homey and God-like feel.
I like our Catholic school so much that I have decided to attend a Catholic university.
Go Catholic schools! :)
I absolutely love going to a catholic school. Most people who go our school have gone to catholic school their whole life, however I haven't. As someone who has attended both catholic and public schools, I think I know first hand how awesome catholic schools really are. My top ten reasons why catholic schools are better are:
ReplyDelete1) The small classes and the ability to really get to know your teachers. I think one on one time is something that we take advantage of.
2) The privilege of weekly mass, retreats, and chapel time when needed.
3) The fact that we rarely have full length classes due to catholic schools week, holy days, ect.
4) We can pray as a school regularly and openly discuss religion and God whenever we want.
5) Our uniform. Despite how most people feel about our dress code, I love waking up every day knowing what I'm going to wear. Plus, I think uniforms are really cute.
6) The small grade size. Imagine not knowing everyone in the whole school, let alone your own class. Eek!
7) That we can celebrate holidays like Christmas and Easter religiously, the way they should be celebrated.
8) I think our school is very relaxed and homey. I think that any student could walk up to any teacher and could feel comfortable having a conversation with them.
9) I love the reputation our school has. Our school is known for having good sports teams and I think that every athlete wears their uniform with pride. I think employers also look higher upon someone who attended private school.
10) I think our school is really good about coming together and supporting one another. You can really tell when a team, or a individual, is doing something great the whole school comes together and supports them. I think every person at ECC, wether it be a teacher or student, wants the best for everyone and wants everyone to do well. I love that.
I complain about school. A lot. But I really shouldn't because I am so very fortunate to attend the school that I do. And I mean that. A Catholic Education has not only taught me a great deal about the faith I have been raised in but it has taught me to preform a balancing act. It has taught me how to become a modern, educated individual while balancing my faith in God with that. If I were to attend a public school I no doubt would have been forced to draw a thick line between the technicalities of my education and the interpretative boundaries of my faith. To thrive in the world after school I need to know how to keep God as an integrated part of my life.
ReplyDeleteIn terms of our school as a specific place I really do love the teachers here. I genuinely care for many of them not only as educators but as people, and I feel the same care and affection in return. We have a staff of incredibly diverse, and not to mention talented, individuals.
I'm so happy we have a marching band too. Only catholic school in the diocese to have one...and it is a relatively new part of my life that was over to quick, but that I am beyond grateful I was able to experience.
Actually I'm grateful for all the freedom the school had offered in the way of both athletics and the arts.
I hate the uniforms. I hate the lunches, and sometime I really do feel like I hate ECC.
But I don't. I could never. It has served me to well these past four years and I will surely miss it when I'm gone.
The top ten reasons I enjoy a catholic educations is one I have many friends that attend there. Reason two is I want to be able to get to get a good catholic education. Reason three is to get a plan good well rounded education. Reason four is to bearable to learn self disciple and to be respectable. Reason five is too expand my knowledge of God and to form life long bonds with him. Reason six is that I don't have to pick out a new outfit everyday and it makes everyone equal. Reason seven they have quality sports teams and events. Reason eight is because there are smaller class sizes. Reason nine there are more experienced faith formed teachers. Reason ten is that the school has a good reputation.
ReplyDeleteWhere do I begin? If I hadn't been forced, yes forced, to go to school at all I wouldn't be the young woman I am today. Through the years I've made friends and lost them, but I'm happy with the ones I have now. I know I can count on them with whatever I'm going through, and I hope they know they can count on me. I used to be religious to an extreme. I'm still religious to this day, but I found my own way to connect with God. I look back to what I've accomplished and what I failed to do. It's crazy that at one point I wore makeup that made me look like a raccoon. Also, that I've only been the height of my knees. I'm happy, though. I'm becoming the best person I can be each day. Who knows? If I didn't go to the tiny little catholic school I might not be me.
ReplyDeleteI hope no one minds, but I am going to write this extremely informally. My other brother graduated from ECC three years ago. I will graduate from ECC next year, but in three years, my little brother will graduate from Dutch. I'm trying to get my brother to switch back over to catholic school, but as of now, it looks like he is staying over at public school. And that's okay! My brother Ben and I always talk about the differences between our schools. One thing however that I will never forget, is when our grandpa died two years ago on January 12th. I have a big, close, italian family, so obviously it was a really hard time. To show their respects, someone bought a mass in honor for my grandpa a month later. I don't really know how that works, but it did. We all took a half day to go to johnsonburg for the mass. Everyone at my school, the teachers and the staff, were understanding of why I came into school late and all made sure I knew they were there for me. Things didn't exactly go the same was for my brother though. Later that day, the office called my dad at home saying that "going to church" wasn't a legitimate excuse for Ben being late to school and it wouldn't be counted as an excused absence and that he could possibly be fined. I won't go into any more detail because I see this is getting pretty long, but my parents worked everything out and after a week or so everything was okay.
ReplyDeleteSome people might say that being at a private school, we don't have to deal with the struggles and arguments and opposing views of other people but I disagree with this. However, instead of student against student, I think it's more like student body against other student bodies. Let's be honest. Other schools hate us. But we all still stand strong because we stand together. As much as I dint like our school, I really like our school.
There is no other school that I would rather go than here at Elk County Catholic. Being at a private schools really makes you wonder, well at least it makes me wonder. When I hear private school, I imagine myself in a movie at one of the biggest schools with millions of kids. But that's not how it is here. And that's such a great thing. To be able to have only 70 or so kids in a grade and know each of them personally is something most schools don't have. It's almost like each grade is a huge family. Catholic schools week is also something special. Being able to have fun system wide and involve god into it is magical.
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of things that I don't like about Catholic schools that I actually don't think I could live without. For example uniforms and weekly mass. I'm terrible at making decisions on what to wear, so imagine if I had to do it every day! And if I didn't get to sing at mass every week, when would I sing? Another thing is theology class. I don't particularly like it, but it's way better than going to Sunday school or whatever they call it. In all honesty, we also have a ton of freedom here. There may be regulations on what colors the bottom of our shoes have to be, but we're allowed to eat during classes and get away with a lot of things that other kids can't. Besides, all of the rules teach us great discipline that other kids may not have.
ReplyDeleteI think we have some of the best teachers. I don't know if that related to the fact that we're a Catholic school or not, but they're all pretty wonderful. Also, we're one of the last Catholic schools in this area that still has both the athletics and music programs intact and thriving. I feel really blessed to be able to participate in these activities.
